47 Best Free Pokémon-Inspired Crochet Patterns

As a mom who has gone from little kids to teens, I have collected over 40 free crochet Pokémon patterns and learned that Pokémon-inspired amigurumi and plushies make some of the best gifts for anyone who has ever loved the cute characters. And yes, that includes some partners! Like the huge Pikachu plushie I made in chenille yarn sits above my husband's gaming station, and after more than 10 years of crocheting, it is still his favorite thing I have ever made.

In this roundup, I have collected the best free Pokémon-inspired crochet patterns to help you easily find the right project for your next handmade gift or fan art piece. To make this list more useful, I have sorted each pattern by character, pattern type, and skill level.

I have personally crocheted some of these patterns, and they have been a huge hit. For the ones I have not made myself, I have carefully reviewed them to make sure they are genuine patterns and not AI-generated.

Pikachu patterns

Pikachu is one of the most recognizable choices for a Pokémon-inspired crochet project, which makes it a great place to start for both gifts and fan art. Its chubby, red cheeks and expressive face make it the perfect Pokémon for plushies.

My Review

What stands out about this pattern is the free pdf that you can download, it is highly useful with all of its pictures. It looks fairly beginner-friendly, however, I would not recommend it as your very first amigurumi project. I have not made this one yet, but I carefully reviewed this pattern.

Good to know

  • The designer uses a very small crochet hook, if you are like me and prefer the 2.0-2.5 mm crochet hook for your amigurumis, your pikachu will be bigger than the estimated size.

My Review

The pattern posted on the blog is very easy to read; the site is free of clutter and ads. There aren't many pictures, but the directions are clear, and a few images show the trickier part of the tail.

  • There is no gauge or finished size given in this pattern. If you make it with a cotton yarn, I suggest using a smaller hook size than stated in the pattern.
