Yarn recommendations for a baby cardigan
For this crochet baby cardigan pattern i used a mix yarn containing baby llama wool, which is a soft and warm yarn. The cardigan can also be made using Paintbox yarns simply aran if you prefer a cooler acrylic yarn.
Materials needed
Yarn: 100-150 gr Llama soft (Balls: 50gr, 150m/164yards), you could check yarnsub for an yarn that’s easier for you to get your hands on.
Hook: 4,0mm
Scissors
Needle
Sizes: 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months
Gauge: 16 dc x 9 rows = 10x10cm (4”x4”)
To check your gauge:
Start by chaining 18
1-9. Starting in third chain from hook make 1 dc in each st (16) ch 2, turn
You square should now be 10x10cm (4”x4”)
This cardigan has been designed with a lot of ease as to not have a tight feeling around the child.
The cardigan is crocheted top down with a raglan increase. After the yoke and the body is done you will crochet the arms directly onto the cardigan.
The number of stitches for each size is separated with a / , if there are no / in a row that means that the number written applies to all sizes. Take care to always follow the numbers for the size you have chosen to make.

Repeat row 6 another 12/14/16 times.
Fasten your yarn and sew in your ends.
In the pictures below you can see how you will start your arms, the pictures have been taken before the body of the cardigan has been completed, you can also see that I have used a different colored yarn to better demonstrate.
Left arm
- With the backside of the cardigan facing you, fasten your yarn in the first skipped stitch, ch 2, in same st as ch 2 make 1 hdc, underneath the arm you will them make hdc3tog and then 1 hdc in each remaining st, sl st into the top of your first st (30/32/37) ch 2, turn.
(hdc3tog under the arm is made by inserting your hook in three appropriate places up until your first skipped stitch on the opposite side. This is done to avoid a hole under the armpit.)
- 1 hdc in each st, sl st into first st (30/32/37) ch 2, turn
- 1 hdc, hdc2tog, 1 hdc in each st, sl st into first st (29/31/36) ch 2, turn

- 1 hdc, in each st, sl st into first st (28/30/35) ch 2, turn

- In same stitch as ch 2 make 1 hdc, then 1 hdc in each of the skipped stitches, hdc3tog under the arm and finish with a sl st into first st (30/32/37) ch 2 turn
- 1 hdc in each st, sl st into first st (30/32/37) ch 2 turn
