Pattern info
This super easy bag pattern is made by crocheting a rectangle and then folding the ends and sewing it together. It is super easy and fast to make this crochet bag.
I also made a flap to close the bag with a magnetic button, but that part can be skipped. I used a premade bag strap from a phone case I never used. The reason I didn’t make a crochet strap is because my yarn ran out. I know, I totally lost at yarn chicken! However, I do provide some step-by-step pictures in the pattern on how to make your own crocheted strap and suggestions for length. I also did a search on Hobbii.com and found some alternatives here.
With this free bag pattern you can make this stunning yet simple crochet bag using any yarn and hook size you want. At the end of the pattern, I provide instructions on how to crochet a crochet bag using any yarn weight and hook size.

Pattern notes:
Different styles of a crochet bag can be made depending on the occasion.
This pattern is worked in rows. When a turning chain is noted e.g. ch 1, turn, or ch 2, turn, this does not count as a stitch.
For the hdc stitches I chain 1 before turning, this creates neater edges but makes it important to count your stitches, as to not miss working a stitch.
Gauge: 14hdc x 10 rows = 10cm x 10cm (4″ x 4″)
Terminology US:
ch – chain
hdc – half double crochet
Materials needed:
Yarn: Durable velvet – 1 and a half skein
crochet hook: 4,5 mm
Tapestry needle
Measuring tape
Optional:
Bag strap
thread
sewing needle
Let’s start this crochet bag
Leaving approx. 1 m for sewing, make a slip knot and ch 37.
Row 1: Starting in second chain from hook, hdc in each ch across, (36 sts) ch 1 turn
Row 2-85: hdc in each st across, (36 sts) ch 1, turn
Row 86: hdc in each st, (36 sts) cut your yarn, leaving approx. 1 m of yarn for sewing the bag together.
Measure to be sure the rectangle is long enough (74 cm). Do this by folding the ends like the pictures to make sure all ends line up accordingly. If your ends overlap you need to frog a row or two, if there is space between them you need to add rows until they do line up.
Once your bag is the correct size follow the pictures to sew your ends together. Make sure to line up the hdc rows for a nice and neat look.

Row 2: 1 hdc in each st (4 sts) ch 1, turn
Work row 2 until strap measures 85 cm
Cut your yarn and sew the strap into the corresponding stitches on the opposite end of the bag. fasten your yarn and weave in your ends

Bag close
Ch 5, begin in second chain from your hook
Row 1: hdc in each ch (4 sts) ch 1, turn
Row 2: hdc in each st (4 sts) ch 1, turn
Row 3: hdc in each st, (4 sts) cut your yarn, leaving a tail long enough to sew it to the bag.
Using a sewing needle and thread, sew the magnetic button onto the piece in one end. Then sew the other end to the bag, see pictures for placement.
When the piece is attached to the bag, measure where the other end of your button will be and sew it onto the bag.
